Why did you create this journal?

GOSPELS
We chose the Gospels because we wanted to help put people in touch with the Person of Jesus Christ - what he did, how he did it - what he said, how he said it.

”The Gospels are the heart of all the Scriptures ‘because they are our principal source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word, our Savior.’”  - CCC 125

SIMPLE
We wanted this journal to be simple.  So many of us when we want to start praying with Scripture don’t know where to start.
‘Start with the Gospels’… how much do I read at one time?  ‘Start at the beginning of the Bible’… that’s overwhelming.  ‘Pray with the Scriptures from Mass’… which ones?… All of them?  Where do I find that?  Now I need to buy a missal or get a subscription to something.
We wanted this to be simple.  So, we chose the Gospel reading from Mass.  It’s usually short.  And it’s just the Gospel.  It’s all chosen for us.  Many of us out there will appreciate that.

ENCOUNTER
We also wanted a space where we can engage with the text itself, and thus encounter and dialogue with GOD who is speaking.  Since this journal is for 2026 and not a missal that we would use year after year, we could engage with the text more freely by underlining, circling, writing notes.  And then instead of having a separate journal (which can certainly be a great thing), we included a space to journal for each day next to the Gospel passage.  So we could see this journal like your bible and journal in one.

“In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them.” - CCC 104

ACCOUNTABILITY
I think that many of us who start praying with Scripture everyday start out strong.  Then comes that first day we skip (for various reasons).  Then we may skip again.  Then when we try to begin again, we can often get discouraged.
The way that this journal is designed is that there is a Gospel passage for everyday.  And it’s from the Mass that day - the same Mass celebrated around the world.  There is a certain solidarity in reading and praying with the same Scripture that millions of Christians are praying with around the world.  We’re not alone in praying with these Scriptures.  We’re all praying together!  And when the day comes that we’re tempted to skip, our journal will call to us to pray and write because if we don’t, that page will be left blank.  The date and the liturgical celebration’s name is also at the top of every page.  Often, when we’re journaling and we skip prayer for a day or days (or weeks) and then return to our journal, there is not much on those pages that is holding us accountable to writing everyday.  We just begin again where we left off.  This Scripture Journal is designed in a way that has small built-in accountability.  We surely appreciate that and hope that some of you will too.

As we begin to journal, we may look at our journal closed and see the ribbon near the beginning of the book. All those other pages not prayed with yet... not written on... we could see these pages as God going before us... His Word will always be there tomorrow... His Word will be there for us every day. There's a certain real security in knowing that His Word will be waiting for me each day. HE is waiting for me, ready to speak... ready to encounter me, every day.

Why did you choose the readings that you did?

We chose the Gospel reading for Mass each day and followed the Liturgical Calendar for the Dioceses of the United States of America 2026 from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

As you may know, there are often specific readings for Memorials and Optional Memorials. These readings are optional. There are a few memorials that have a 'proper' Gospel, which means that whether or not a pastor chooses all of the optional readings for that day, the Gospel for that Memorial must be proclaimed.
Whenever there is a proper Gospel for a memorial - following the liturgical calendar - we chose that Gospel for the journal that day. That said, while a pastor can certainly chose the particular optional readings for a memorial or optional memorial for his particular congregation, we decided to stick with the Scripture for the ferial (or seasonal) weekday in this journal for a number of reasons.
If all that is a little confusing, we totally understand lol. Simply speaking, we follow the liturgical calendar for the United States put out by the USCCB and only choose the Gospel reading for memorials when the Church states it must be proclaimed. If you have more questions about this, feel free to reach out to us or learn more at USCCB LITURGICAL CALENDAR and click the 2026 Calendar PDF download.

I don't really know how to journal.

Some of us love to journal.  Some of us would like to, but may not know where to begin.  Here are a few options to consider:

•  Write what stood out to you from the passage... a word, words, or theme that captured your attention or affection.

•  Jot down your strongest thought, feeling, or desire that came up in your prayer.

•  Write down what happened in your prayer time, even if it’s just a few words.

•  Write a short letter or note to God.  Maybe address the letter, “Dear LORD” or “Dear Father” or “Dear Jesus” or “Dear Friend,” etc. and share your heart with him who is listening.

Writing down the word(s) from Scripture that captured our attention or affection during our prayer can help us hold on to it throughout the day and remind us of what God may have been speaking to us.

It can also be fruitful to regularly look back on our journal entries - possibly once a week or once a month - and review the content of our prayer.  We may be able to recognize a theme or consistant word from the LORD.

What does the Church teach about the Bible?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs # 101-141 refer to the Church's teaching on Sacred Scripture.

Below are a few quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that highlight the gift of Scripture and the encouragement to pray with God’s Word.  We hope that these favorite quotes of ours bless you as much as they do us.

-------------------

"In Sacred Scripture, the Church constantly finds her nourishment and her strength, for she welcomes it not as a human word, “but as what it really is, the word of God.” “In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them.”
- CCC 104

“And such is the force and power of the Word of God that it can serve the Church as her support and vigor and the children of the Church as strength for their faith, food for the soul, and a pure and lasting font of spiritual life.”  Hence “access to Sacred Scripture ought to be open wide to the Christian faithful.”
- CCC 131

“The Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures as she venerated the Body of the Lord”: both nourish and govern the whole Christian life. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”
- CCC 141

"The Gospels are the heart of all the Scriptures “because they are our principal source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word, our Savior.”
- CCC 125

"The fourfold Gospel holds a unique place in the Church, as is evident both in the veneration which the liturgy accords it and in the surpassing attraction it has exercised on the saints at all times:
 . . .

'But above all it’s the Gospels that occupy my mind when I’m at prayer; my poor soul has so many needs, and yet this is the one thing needful. I’m always finding fresh lights there, hidden and enthralling meanings.' (St Therese)
- CCC 127

"The Church “… specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ,’ by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. ‘Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.’”
- CCC 133

Is there a particular pen you recommend for this journal?

At the end of the day, we believe that the choice of a pen really comes down to personal preference. Some pens write more or less smooth than others. Some write with more or less ink. Some write with more or less bleed (see through the paper). Some write with more or less smear. Each feels different in your hand

That said, the paper used in our journal is a 50# 500ppi natural paper. It is thin and lightweight. While it is thin, it is significantly thicker than Bible paper.

We tested a number of different brands and types of pens on the journal paper. If you do not have a particular preference or don’t know where to start, the Pilot G2 Gel 0.5mm and Mr Pen Gel 0.5mm may be good places to begin.

Also, a simple search for 'bible pens' will bring you more info than you may have thought out there.

A couple of our customers use pencil to journal. Currently, Roch is using a mechanical pencil and loving it. It's a 'Rite in the Rain' 1.3mm. It writes smooth and has no bleed through the page as there's no ink.

This journal has been fruitful In the short time I have had it. I have had seasons in my life where I read the daily gospel; however, having them all in one book and the accompanying journal pages has created the space for further reflection.

Bought 1/2 way through the year because of price. So far liking it a lot. Helping to keep me on track with my daily devotion routine. Only thing I would change is perhaps having all the readings and responses noted. I have gone in and added that myself for the next couple of days.

Wha a beautiful journal! I thought it was very fitting that the first Sunday reading when I began was the Gospel ‘On every Word’! I finally have a journal that gives me purpose and guidance in the Ignatian Prayer Way.

I am so excited to start journeying with this book. I decided to buy it a month into the new year and will be praying with it this Lent. I’ve started bringing it to Mass and jotting down notes from the homily which are related to the daily reading and that also has been great for praying with this. Thank y’all for compiling this and can’t wait to encounter Jesus daily through His word!

The physical book itself is just awesome and feels high quality for a simple and specific use journal. I can not recommend it enough. It has helped me meditate on scripture more thoroughly by writing in a short snippet. I cant think about it and get distracted and move on. I also cant write pages and pages of random thoughts. This is a great tool for mediation on the Gospels. Thank you for making this product! May God bless this ministry!

The quality of this journal is unreal. It’s extremely sturdy, the paper is great to write on, and the font is the perfect size. Being able to spend my morning prayer time with one book instead of two or three is a game changer. GREAT product, can’t say enough good things about this journal. It’s perfect for everyone trying to pray more with the Gospels.

I love this journal for at least a couple of reasons. One reason is I feel permission to write in it, underline, make notes, and ask questions in the margins. Which is a freedom I haven’t allowed myself in my actual bible. Another is that it’s just the Gospel passages and space to pray through journaling. There’s not commentary throughout or cherry picked verses to fit a specific lens or message. It’s simply the beautiful gift of daily bread from the Church and the space to encounter what The Father is speaking to my heart specifically and it is REFRESHING.

The On Every Word scripture journal is everything I’ve ever wanted for prayer journaling. It’s been so much easier to keep a consistent prayer routine (and as a busy mom of 3 young kids that’s not always easy)! This prayer journal has also reduced screen time from my phone since I don’t have to look up the Gospel readings on my phone each day. Love that!

My husband and I just read the first reading. I read, He listened. Then, we both took a turn journaling our thoughts that God placed in our hearts. This is such a wonderful way to have an intimate relationship with the God that created us and married us!

I feel like everything about this journal is something to be admired. First of all, it is beautiful! The care and thought in the crafting of it is apparent. Even the packaging of it shows intentionality. Second, I feel like the simplicity of its design makes the goal of daily scripture journaling way less intimidating. They have even included helpful articles about praying with scripture to help people dive in fully and confidently. I feel like I can stick with this! I cannot wait until January 1 so we can begin, and I cannot wait to encounter our Lord in His word more. I cannot wait to see what He reveals.

A very well constructed journal. The organization and thought behind how it was made is evident! It would go great with a leather journal cover :)

2026 ON EVERY WORD Scripture Journal

2026 has been a year with some significant challenges and changes. This Scripture journal has been a source of strength and solace. I had been accustomed to reading the daily Mass readings and occasionally writing passages down, but this journal has provided the opportunity for me to reflect and write on a daily basis. It's the best way to start my day. Thank you for this beautiful way to grow in faith through the Gospels.

ON EVERY WORD Scripture Journal 2026

Beautifully made! It’s the perfect prayer companion for my one on one time with God while I journal.

On Every Word Scripture Journal 2026

As a stay-at-home mom of littles, my spiritual goal for this year was to be more intentional with my prayer life because this season of life is beautiful, yet challenging. This simplistic work has been what my soul was searching for! It has allowed me to pray with Scripture in a way that I haven’t ever before. I truly look forward to my daily reading and writing with Jesus. The journal has also been fruitful in contributing to conversations in my marriage. I love how my husband can read the passage, and God may give him a different perspective to share with me. I highly recommend this journal to anyone who is yearning to encounter Jesus in His Word!

On Every Word Scripture Journal 2026

This Bible Journal is a treasure!! As a priest, life exists between homilies... I am always preparing a homily! Having this bible journal allows me to pray with the Gospels that are given for the Mass that day and it gives a wonderful space to write what God has spoken to me through that Scripture! Once He has spoken to me, then I am able to allow that Word to speak through me to the people! I have bought one for all of our seminarians, as well as several friends and family! I would recommend this Journal to any who is wanting to grow in God's Word and especially to every one of my brother priests! May the Word of God burn brightly within our hearts!

This journal is amazing! It contains everything you need and nothing you don’t! The binding quality is phenomenal as well!
